Roy Ka-Wei LEE

I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Information Systems Technology and Design (ISTD) Pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), where I lead the Social AI Studio—a dedicated research group focused on developing cutting-edge social artificial intelligence systems.

My academic journey began at Singapore Management University (SMU), where I obtained my Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees in Information Systems, all on fully-funded scholarships. During my Ph.D. studies, I had the privilege of being advised by Professor Lim Ee-Peng.

My research lies at the intersection of data mining, machine learning, computational social science, and natural language processing. I am particularly interested in enhancing online safety and trust by designing solutions to combat online hate speech, misinformation, and other harmful content. In recognition of my expertise and contributions to online trust and safety research, I was appointed as an Adjunct Senior Scientist at Singapore’s Centre for Advanced Technologies in Online Safety (CATOS), which focuses on building robust technological capabilities to combat online harms.

Opportunities: We offer scholarships to outstanding students enrolled in SUTD's Ph.D. programmes. We are also looking for Research Assistants and Research Fellows! If you are a hardworking student keen on conducting research in data mining, machine learning, social computing, computational social science, or natural language processing, please feel free to drop me an email.
